There are many search engines in Germany. The most important include Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com. While Google has a market share of about 90%, it creates the second largest provider, Bing, just to about 2.5%. Ask.com and Yahoo comes to just 1% market share.
These figures have since the mid-90s, is constantly changing and the search engines have evolved into one direction or another. Here is a brief overview of the three major search engines worldwide: Yahoo , Bing and Google .
YAHOO!
Yahoo is on the market since 1995 and was founded by two students at Stanford University in the USA. Actually, it was at Yahoo! Initially, a directory of the most popular websites of the two founders. Yahoo is an acronym for " Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle ".
The website directory is sorted and categorized and managed by installation in the Netscape web browser to rise to one of the most visited websites in the world. The purchase several search engines, including AltaVista and Inktomi, Yahoo gave an increased market share.
The basic idea was there to offer email accounts and online calendar and manage. The registration for clients was free for the first time since Yahoo's main source of income has long been the sale of advertising banners. More customers mean more valuable ad and ultimately increased revenue.
